What Happens When You Visit NVPI

Your first visit is a comprehensive session with Dr. Rick Graebe, one of the only eye doctors in Kentucky with elite OVDR international designation. He focuses exclusively on neurovisual performance, evaluating aspects of vision that go far beyond standard 20/20 eyesight. Even if you decide not to pursue therapy, you will walk away with a clear understanding of what is happening and a path forward.

What We Test That Nobody Else Tests

We track your eye movement during reading in real time to show how each eye moves across the text. We also check if your eyes work together perfectly as a team, pointing at the exact same place at the same time.

Can you maintain binocular focus as objects get closer, and sustain it during a reading session? We also measure ambient and focal processing pathways to see how quickly your brain interprets what your eyes send.

We measure your sway on a balance board to find inner ear, body position, or visual instabilities. We also assess developmental reflexes that may not have integrated during infancy, silently interfering with visual performance today.

Neuro-Visual Performance Training

An integrated approach combining vision therapy, perceptual training, OMST, and syntonics to build visual pathways that last a lifetime.

You come in once a week, typically on the same day. Each clinical session builds heavily on the previous one to advance your visual skills.

We send you home with equipment and specific protocols for exactly what to do. There is no guesswork. Consistent daily effort is the key to structural changes.

If you go more than 3 days without practicing, the brain will not build a new pathway for that skill. Consistency creates enduring change. This is not optional, it is fundamental neuroscience.

The Three Phases of Therapy

The first third of the program is about learning what clicks for you specifically. We map the territory, uncover deficits, and find the approaches your brain responds to best.

This is where the real work happens. Real-world changes emerge: reading gets easier, balance improves, and headaches decrease. Scores go up as new abilities are formed.

Most programs skip this, but it is vital. We move your skills from "I can do this if I concentrate" to "I don't even think about it anymore." This embedding creates automatic, lifelong change.

Our Proven Results

On average, our patients see over a 3.5-year jump in measurable functional vision skill levels across a standard 30-week program.

Neuroplastic changes are structural. Once a visual pathway is securely established through embedding, it lasts a lifetime. Over 90% of our patients never need to return.
