Advanced Treatments and Diagnostics
At NVPI, we combine more than 20 specialized treatments and diagnostic tools into one coordinated program called Neuro-Visual Performance Training. Each treatment targets a different level of your visual and sensory system. Explore the full range of tools we use to help you see, think, and perform at your best.
Vision Is a Brain Process, We Treat the Whole System
Your eyes work like cameras, capturing light and sending signals to the brain. But the brain is responsible for turning those signals into everything you see, understand, and react to. When the brain's visual processing is slow, strained, or disrupted, it affects reading, coordination, focus, balance, and daily comfort, even when your eyesight tests at 20/20. That is why our Neuro-Visual Performance Training program goes beyond the eyes. We evaluate and treat the full visual system, including how the brain processes what the eyes capture, how the senses work together, and how the nervous system supports it all. Every patient's program is built from a comprehensive evaluation that identifies your specific pattern of strengths and challenges.

Core Clinical Treatments
These four treatments form the foundation of every Neuro-Visual Performance Training program. Each one targets a different level of the visual system, from how the eyes move, to how the brain processes what they capture, to how the body's deepest sensory systems support it all.
Vision Therapy
Often called physical therapy for the eyes, vision therapy retrains the core skills your eyes need to work together, including focusing, tracking, and eye teaming. This is the foundational clinical treatment in our program.
Optometric Multisensory Training
OMST trains precise eye movements, the quick jumps, smooth tracking, and steady fixation your brain depends on to read, scan, and navigate. NVPI is one of only 24 practices worldwide offering this treatment.
Optometric Phototherapy (Syntonics)
Syntonics uses targeted light wavelengths to balance the autonomic nervous system and expand the functional visual field. It helps regulate the body's stress response so higher-level visual skills can develop.
Primitive Reflex Integration
Retained primitive reflexes are like a cracked foundation, they undermine everything built on top. This treatment integrates reflexes that should have resolved in early childhood, creating the stable sensory base the rest of the program builds on.
How Your Treatments Work Together
Our Neuro-Visual Performance Training program is built on three pillars. Multisensory Training integrates hearing, balance, and body awareness with vision. Perceptual Training strengthens how the brain interprets complex visual information. Vision Therapy retrains the core motor skills of the eyes. Treatment follows a bottom-up progression, the body's foundational sensory systems must be regulated before higher-level visual skills like reading and coordination can develop. Each treatment and technology on this page plays a specific role within this layered approach.
The Brain Can Build New Visual Pathways at Any Age
Advanced Training Technology
Specialized technologies that push visual training beyond what traditional methods can achieve, from virtual reality to Olympic-level sensory stations.
Neuro-Regulation & Recovery
Treatments that target the nervous system directly, calming the stress response, supporting cellular recovery, and building the regulated state your brain needs to heal and perform.
Sensory & Balance Training
Building the vestibular-visual-proprioceptive foundation that stable vision depends on, training the brain to integrate balance, body position, and sight.
Supportive Lenses
Specialized lens tools that support the brain while it builds new, lasting neural pathways, like training wheels that reduce strain during the retraining process.
Assessment & Diagnostics
Objective measurement tools that guide every treatment decision and track your progress with real data, not guesswork.
Home-Based Training
Patient-directed exercises that extend your office-based progress into daily life, reinforcing the visual pathways being built during sessions.

Meet Dr. Rick Graebe
With more than 40 years of clinical experience and over 9,000 patients treated, Dr. Rick Graebe is one of the most experienced neuro-visual specialists in the country. He holds elite board certifications in Vision Therapy, Pediatric Developmental Vision Care, and Vision Rehabilitation, and is one of the only eye doctors in Kentucky with the prestigious OVDR international designation.

Your Care Team
It is not just vision therapy — it is a coordinated system that combines multiple specialized treatments to address the eyes, brain, and sensory systems together.
Everything begins with a comprehensive evaluation that goes far beyond a standard eye exam. Dr. Graebe assesses eye coordination, visual processing speed, depth perception, sensory integration, balance, and neurological function. The specific combination of treatments in your program is based on what the evaluation reveals about your unique pattern of strengths and challenges.
Yes. All of the treatments in our program are non-invasive and comfortable. Children often respond especially well because the developing brain has high neuroplasticity, which means it builds new connections quickly with the right training. Many of the activities are engaging and interactive, which helps keep younger patients motivated.
The brain retains the ability to build new neural pathways throughout life. Adults recovering from concussions or brain injuries, managing increasing visual demands at work, or dealing with lifelong conditions like strabismus or amblyopia all see meaningful improvements. Age is not a barrier to building stronger visual pathways.
The length of your program depends on your specific needs and goals. Progress is measured objectively through data collected at every session, and your program adjusts as you improve. Dr. Graebe discusses expected timelines during your evaluation so you know what to expect from the start.
