Moore’s Journey to Vision Therapy: A Happy Accident That Changed Lives
Daphne Moore never planned on becoming a Vision Therapist, yet a simple online job search set her on a path that would transform both her life and the lives of countless patients. Her story shows how unexpected opportunities can lead to meaningful work that benefits people of all ages across Central and Southern Kentucky.
Discovering Vision Therapy
Moore’s first steps into the field began shortly after graduating with a psychology degree and moving to Harrodsburg, Kentucky.
A Chance Job Posting
While looking for school counseling positions in 2014, Moore noticed an opening for a Vision Therapist at Dr. Rick Graebe’s optometry office in Versailles. Intrigued by a field she had never heard of, she decided to apply.
Interview and First Impressions
Moore’s interview with seasoned Vision Therapist Jennifer Lord opened her eyes to the possibilities of Vision Therapy. She later recalled that it sounded like an adventure she wanted to take.
Alignment With Passion
The role involved working closely with children, a group Moore had always wanted to serve. The timing, her recent move, and her newly earned degree made the position feel like a perfect fit.
Training and Professional Growth
After joining the Neuro-Visual Performance Institute, Moore devoted herself to mastering the skills needed to guide patients toward better visual performance.
Pursuing Certification
Years of study, research, and exams led Moore to earn certification from the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. The credential strengthened both her confidence and her clinical abilities.
Influence of Leaders in the Field
During her certification process in Bellevue, Washington, Moore met behavioral optometrist Robert Sanet. Tools he developed, such as the Sanet Vision Integrator software, now play an important role in her therapy sessions.
Individualized Patient Approach
Dr. Graebe encourages every therapist to follow the patient rather than a rigid protocol. This holistic method allows Moore to tailor each program so that no two treatment plans are exactly alike.
Changing Lives Through Vision Therapy
Moore now guides patients aged five to eighty who want to improve daily activities, academic performance, or recovery from injury.
Helping Children Succeed
Many young patients arrive struggling with reading or learning. After therapy, they often jump multiple grade levels in their literacy skills, boosting both confidence and classroom success.
Supporting Adults in Recovery
Adults who have experienced traumatic brain injuries come to regain skills like driving, working, or enjoying hobbies. The therapy restores visual function and independence.
Enhancing Athletic Performance
Young athletes use Vision Therapy to sharpen hand-eye coordination and reaction time, gaining a competitive edge in sports throughout the greater Lexington area.
