Vision Therapy is an essential aspect of comprehensive eye care that often flies under the radar. For Dr. Rebecca Swartzentruber, the newest optometrist at Dr. Rick Graebe’s Family Eyecare Associates in Versailles, Kentucky, Vision Therapy was a natural fit from the moment it was introduced to her during optometry school.

A Natural Passion for Vision Therapy

During her studies, Vision Therapy—a specialized form of physical therapy for the eyes, brain, and body—resonated deeply with Dr. Swartzentruber. As she reflects, “The science of it made sense to me. Something clicked in my brain. It didn’t click for everybody, and I knew this was something I wanted to pursue.”

With her newfound interest, Dr. Swartzentruber took the initiative to visit Dr. Graebe’s practice during a clinical rotation at the University of Kentucky. She was excited to see how Vision Therapy was being implemented in real life and how Dr. Rick Graebe’s holistic approach to eye care truly set his clinic apart.

Fast forward five years, and Dr. Swartzentruber is now a proud member of Dr. Graebe’s team, bringing her expertise and passion to the people of Central Kentucky.

Dedicated to Helping Children Thrive

Dr. Swartzentruber’s passion for working with children makes her a perfect fit for Dr. Graebe’s practice, which specializes in pediatric eye care. In the Children’s Vision and Learning Center, she works closely with students who are struggling academically. Often, the issue lies in their visual system not functioning optimally, which can make reading and learning more difficult than it should be.

“We see children who come to us with unanswered questions about why they are struggling,” she explains. “Often, it’s because their eyes are not working together as a team, or their visual system is not processing information correctly.”

Through Vision Therapy, children can overcome these challenges, and Dr. Swartzentruber is now part of the effort to help even more students succeed. The practice has been life-changing for many families in Southern and Central Kentucky, and with Dr. Swartzentruber on board, the clinic can help even more patients.

Thriving in Central Kentucky

Dr. Swartzentruber, originally from Ohio, now calls Lexington her home. She lives there with her husband, Michael, who serves as a minister at South Elkhorn Christian Church. She remains active in the community, hosting a young adult fellowship group and participating in various church activities. For her, being part of Dr. Graebe’s Family Eyecare Associates means more than just a career—it’s about making a difference in the lives of families and children across Central Kentucky.
