How Daphne Moore Found Her Path in Vision Therapy
It was 2014, and Daphne Moore was freshly graduated with a psychology degree from St. Catharine College. She was searching for school counseling jobs, but life had other plans. While browsing online, a position as a Vision Therapist at Dr. Rick Graebe FCOVD’s optometry office in Versailles, Kentucky, caught her attention. She didn’t know it at the time, but this was the start of a fulfilling career that would allow her to impact lives across Central and Southern Kentucky.
Moore applied and soon found herself in a lengthy interview with Jennifer Lord, a seasoned Vision Therapist at the clinic. The concept of Vision Therapy was completely new to Moore, yet it sparked her curiosity. She recalls, “I had never heard of Vision Therapy, but it sounded like an adventure that I wanted to take.”
The timing was ideal. Not only had she just graduated, but she’d also recently married and moved to Harrodsburg, Kentucky, from her hometown of Willisburg. Moore quickly recognized that this job aligned perfectly with her passion for working with children—a key part of Dr. Graebe’s practice.
The Wide Reach of Vision Therapy at Dr. Graebe’s Practice
In her role at the Neuro-Visual Performance Institute, Moore works with patients of all ages, from 5-year-old children to adults in their 80s. Each patient shares a common thread: a desire to improve their quality of life through Vision Therapy. She’s proud to be part of a team that truly makes a difference, stating, “I wanted a career where you can make a big difference in somebody’s life, and we definitely do that here.”
Moore is now certified by the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, a credential that involved years of training, research, and rigorous exams. The process took her to Bellevue, Washington, where she met renowned behavioral optometrist Robert Sanet. Dr. Sanet’s influence and the tools he developed, like the Sanet Vision Integrator software used in Dr. Graebe’s office, further fueled her commitment to the field.
She values the holistic approach to care that Dr. Graebe champions: “No two patients are alike, and Dr. Graebe is so good at training us to follow the patient.” Moore emphasizes that this individualized approach is a big part of what makes the work so rewarding. The clinic sees remarkable success stories every day—from children whose reading skills improve by multiple grade levels to older adults who regain the ability to drive.
Vision Therapy in Action: Making a Difference in Central and Southern Kentucky
Patients from all over the greater Lexington area, including Frankfort, Danville, and Lawrenceburg, come to Versailles for Vision Therapy with Dr. Graebe’s team. They may be children who struggle with reading, young athletes looking to enhance their sports performance, or adults recovering from traumatic brain injuries.
Moore’s journey is a testament to how unexpected paths can lead to meaningful careers. Through her work with Dr. Graebe, she continues to help patients across Central and Southern Kentucky improve their lives in profound ways. “We see these success stories every day,” she says with pride.
